Jasmine Lehuanani Ornellas
Jasmine Lehuanani Ornellas, former Miss Kaua‘i 2006 and Miss Island Ilima 2007, has traveled around the world sharing her love for hula. With twenty seven years of experience dancing hula, her passion has taken her to perform and teach hula in places like New York city’s Carnegie Hall, the capital at Washington D.C., Japan, Egypt, Malaysia, Iraq, Kuwait, and China for the 2008 Olympic Games. Between all her travels sharing her love for hula, Jasmine has managed to also graduate from the University of Hawai‘i Mānoa with a B.A. in Hawaiian Studies and is currently finishing her Master’s Degree in Education at Hawai‘i Pacific University. Its quite obvious to someone that this young lady loves to share her talent for hula everywhere she goes, but her favorite place to do that is right here, home in Hawai‘i. Jasmine has been blessed with the opportunity to dance hula throughout the Hawaiian Islands performing as a hula soloist for Hawaii’s Nā Hoku Hanohano award winning female vocalist of the year Nohelani Cypriano entertaining stars from American Idol to Jackie Chan and also with Raiatea Helm along side the Honolulu Symphony directed by Matt Catingub at the Waikiki Shell. She has taught hula at one of Hawaii’s hula meccas, famous Waikiki and now teaches at Waimea Valley on Oahu’s world famous north shore. Jasmine has performed for mass audiences with hundreds of thousands of people but wither the audience is that many or just one, Jasmine is filled with pleasure when she is able to teach people about hula wither its thru them watching hula, taking a lesson, or talking with them. “Because even if its only one person that I reach out to, that in itself is preserving and perpetuating the Hawaiian culture thru hula” which is the legacy the Jasmine hopes to be able to leave behind for many generations to come.
